Mar Saba is a Greek Orthodox monastery built into the rock overlooking the Kidron Valley. It lies about 15km east of Bethlehem in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The monastery was founded by St. Saba (439-532), an important monastic leader during the Byzantine period. It is still in use and preserves a way of life unchanged since the time of Constantine.
