Sealing with Buddhist Sanskrit Text - Front View

Eastern India - 8th-12th century CE

Grayish-brown terracotta disk with seal impression. Complete impression of the seal.  Right edge of sealing broken off.  Powdery white material (clay) coats part of the sealing surface.

Type 1a seal containing 7 bands of text separated by lines.

 

Sealing with Buddhist Sanskrit Text - Back View

Undecorated.  Rounded back.  Left side is broken.   Clay disk was poorly formed resulting in a small hole in the center.  There is a small diagonal crack running across the back of the sealing.  The surface is also slightly rubbed.

 

Dimensions:

2.6 cm high

2.4 cm wide

1.0 cm thick (at midpoint)
