Sealing with Buddhist Sanskrit Text - Front View

Eastern India - 8th-12th century CE

Grayish-brown terracotta disk with seal impression. Complete impression of the seal.  Right edge of sealing broken off.  Some minor pressure cracks are evident around the edges of the sealing.  Minor wear to outer edges/ridges of sealing

Type 1a seal containing 7 bands of text separated by lines.

 

Sealing with Buddhist Sanskrit Text - Back View

Undecorated.  Rounded back.  Left side is broken.  Surface of the sealing back shows faint rows of ridge impressions from the potters hands or fingers. Small flecks of mica embedded in the clay matrix are visible on the back surface.

0.8 cm thick
